Richard Pendlebury MBE DL

I was delighted to become Chief Executive of the Anchor Society in November 2015. I have always felt that in our society we do not honour older citizens as we should. I believe we miss out if we do not gain from the wisdom they have accumulated over a lifetime. Anchor is making a significant contribution to our older people within our community who are struggling either financially, through isolation or other disadvantages they may face. I was particularly drawn to Anchor because of its interest not just in the present but the future through its support of robotics and innovative housing within Bristol. Before I came to Anchor I have been involved in founding a number of charities and social enterprises working to a personal mission to serve those in need. These include Emmaus Bristol which provides home and work for homeless people and Changing Tunes which rehabilitates prisoners. I am currently Chair of Bristol and Bath Regional Capital CIC and patron of a number of charities involved in the relief of poverty in Bristol. I remain keen to ensure that Anchor is innovative and serves the needs of older people not only now but into the future. I would also like to see older citizens being given opportunities to serve others and continue to make a valuable contribution to our city region.
