Grants and financial assistance

We provide emergency one-off grants to isolated, elderly people in genuine immediate need the Bristol area.  These grants can be used to help older people to stay independent and in their own homes and can include essential home repairs and adaptations, mobility aids and helping make homes more accessible and safe. We aim to make the application process as simple and quick as possible and in many cases can give a response within a couple of days.  Applications can be made via our Grant Request Form .  The form will request the following information:

  • Age (applicant has to be over 55)
  • Name
  • Address
  • What is the grant application for?
  • Does the applicant have any disabilities?
  • Does the applicant live alone or have other family members who can assist financially?
  • Have family been asked?
  • Financial circumstances: Is the applicant in receipt of pensions, allowances or credits;
  • please provide details.  Does the applicant have any other significant outgoings?
  • Is the applicant renting or do they own their own home?
  • Have you applied to any other charities for help?  Please list all other charities you will be
  • applying to and how much pledged by any so far if appropriate.

Please note that The Anchor Society does not currently give grants towards the following requests:-

  • general living expenses
  • to pay off debts or outstanding bills,
  • to cover moving costs or travel expenses
  • holidays or respite breaks
  • insurance costs
  • funeral costs
  • clothing
  • crockery & kitchen utensils
